Sen. Shelby calls for end of federal funding to 'Sanctuary Cities' That support crimes against america & the american people

******Alabama's senior U.S. Senator, Richard Shelby, has penned a letter to U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch requesting the Department of Justice end taxpayer-funded federal grants to cities like San Francisco, which dub themselves "Sanctuary Cities". 

Shelby, who holds the position of Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce-Justice-Science (CJS), made the request in the wake of the shooting death of Kathryn Steinle in San Francisco, allegedly by a man who had been deported back to Mexico five times after illegally entering the country.

The suspect, 45-year-old Francisco Sanchez, a repeat drug offender, was released from jail by San Francisco law enforcement despite a federal hold request being placed on him. San Francisco is one of dozens of cities that do not notify federal authorities when it comes into contact with an illegal immigrant.  

San Francisco's status as a "sanctuary" is being heavily criticized following Steinle's death, but the county sheriff stands by the policy.

Senator Shelby's [letter (.pdf)] seeks an end to federal funding grants to cities where local law enforcement intentionally fail to inform federal authorities about illegal immigrants who they choose to release even after the immigrant has committed a crime.

"To be clear," Shelby writes to Lynch, "this failure is not due to negligence, but instead is a result of municipal policies that are deliberately crafted to circumvent federal removal policies."

“Any violent crime is tragic, but the fact that the senseless death in San Francisco arose directly from a ‘sanctuary city’ deliberately obstructing policies to remove illegal immigrants who have committed crimes is appalling and inexcusable,” said Senator Shelby. “I strongly believe that interfering with the routine coordination of federal law enforcement is intolerable and potentially deadly to law-abiding American families.”
